Ray Walters is an NPORS plant machinery assessor who carries out N205 rear tipping dumper assessments on your site, on your own machine, anywhere in the UK. He is based in Northampton, on the M1 in the middle of England.
Assessments are carried out under the NPORS scheme.
The person on the phone is the person who turns up on site.
Ray travels to sites across the UK.
NPORS is a plant operator card scheme founded in 1992. NPORS testing follows course objectives drawn from the National Occupational Standards, and each category is assessed against published learning outcomes. For an overview of the scheme, see NPORS testing.
The NPORS learning outcomes for the machine categories share the same core areas. They cover safety law and the operator’s duties, the manufacturer’s handbook, the main parts and controls, PPE, pre-use and running checks and reporting defects. They also cover getting on and off the machine, starting, stopping and travelling, checks of the work area, loading and unloading for transport and shutting down and securing the machine.
For the dumper categories, the NPORS learning outcomes add the following points. These come from NPORS, not from Ray’s own list:
Which NPORS card applies, traditional or CSCS red or blue, depends on your situation and NPORS’s rules. Details are on certification.
Call Ray to confirm what will be covered on your site and your rear tipping dumper.
If the operator already runs a rear tipping dumper day to day, the experienced worker test is usually the route; if the machine is new to them, it is the novice course. Renewals, an expired card and adding N205 to an existing NPORS card are all handled. Call Ray and he will say which route fits, including whether the experienced worker test applies.
For operators with real experience on a rear tipping dumper. The assessment is against the NPORS learning outcomes for the category, covering knowledge and practical operation.
Training and assessment for someone new to the rear tipping dumper, or new to the work involved.
Often used on the same muck shift and haul routes.
Often loads dumpers in waste, recycling, yards and bulk handling.
Supports safe plant movement on haul routes and busy sites.
Several categories can be discussed in one call.
Ray Walters is an NPORS plant machinery assessor and Walters Training is a one-person business, so the person who answers the phone carries out the assessment.
Before assessing, he spent over 20 years operating plant in construction, groundworks, waste and recycling, scrap metal and general industry.

Call Ray with the site location, how many operators you need to put through and which machines are involved, and he will tell you what is possible. If you are booking for yourself, say whether you need a first card, a renewal or an extra category added.
