What the N202 360 excavator test covers

NPORS testing follows course objectives drawn from the National Occupational Standards. Every category in them covers the same basics, including the operator’s duties, the manufacturer’s information, the machine controls, PPE, pre-use and running checks, travelling, checking the work area, loading and unloading for transport and leaving the machine secure.

For the N202 360 excavator (NPORS: Excavator 360 degrees), the assessment then focuses on the excavator work itself on site.

NPORS publishes separate standards for tracked 360 excavators above and below 10 tonnes, and for novice and experienced routes. Ray will confirm which NPORS standard and learning outcome revision apply, and what the assessment covers for your excavator and your site, when you call. For a wider overview of how on-site NPORS testing works, see NPORS testing.

  • Checks before digging: Checks and preparation before starting work, including making sure the excavator is set up correctly for the task.
  • Travelling and setting up to excavate: Travelling over the work area and positioning the machine safely for excavation.
  • Excavating
  • Placing spoil and keeping different materials apart: Placing excavated material correctly and keeping different materials separate when required.
  • Forming a loading area and loading lorries or containers: Loading material onto vehicles or into containers, including working safely around the loading area.
  • Backfilling, reinstating, grading and levelling: Backfilling and reinstating, including grading and levelling ground to the required finish.
  • Changing buckets and attachments: Attaching and removing buckets and other attachments.
  • Working in restricted space: Working safely where space is limited and there is less room for the machine, the load and other site activity.

Ray confirms what needs to be available on the day for your machine and your site.

3

Assessment on your site

The assessment includes a knowledge part, then a practical assessment on the excavator on the day at your premises, against the NPORS learning outcomes for N202.

4
