What the N132 Plant Mover test covers

Plant mover, which NPORS calls ‘N132 Plant Mover, non operational duties’, covers moving a machine from place to place rather than using it to do the machine’s working job. It is listed as a non operational category, not an operator’s ticket.

The June 2019 NPORS learning outcomes include N132 and set out the subjects it covers.

  • Safety law and the operator’s duties
  • Using the manufacturer’s handbook
  • The main parts and controls
  • PPE
  • Pre-use and running checks and reporting defects
  • Getting on and off, starting, stopping and travelling
  • Checks of the work area
  • The work itself
  • Loading and unloading for transport
  • Shutting down and making the machine secure

The published learning outcomes do not set out machine-by-machine detail for N132 in the way they do for categories such as excavators, dumpers, loading shovels and marshals. When you call, Ray will confirm exactly what the assessment covers for the machines being moved and the site it takes place on. The assessment is carried out at your premises on your machines.

Experienced worker test or novice course

The right route depends on whether you already have real experience of moving plant or you are starting from scratch, and Ray will confirm what fits when you call. Ray offers both experienced worker tests and novice courses. NPORS issues a traditional card and two CSCS logo operator cards, and [the certification page](https://walterstraining.com/certification/) explains the difference.

Experienced worker test

For experienced people who need the NPORS N132 category assessed. If you are renewing, sorting an expired card or adding N132 to existing categories, start here.

Novice course

For anyone new to moving plant who needs training as well as assessment. Call Ray to confirm what he can run for N132.
