This notice explains what Walters Training collects when you use this website or send an enquiry, why, who sees it, how long it is kept and what you can ask for.

Who is responsible for your details

Walters Training is the trading name of Raymond Walters, an NPORS plant machinery assessor based in Northampton. Ray is the data controller for everything described on this page.

He is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZB898690. You can check the registration on the ICO's public register at ico.org.uk.

For anything about your details, contact Ray directly at ray@walterstraining.com or on 07984 357997.

What is collected when you send an enquiry

The enquiry forms keep what you type into them:

The website also records the internet (IP) address and the browser details of the device the form was sent from, which helps to spot spam and misuse.

Please do not put health details or anything else sensitive in the message box. If it matters to the test, Ray will ask when he gets in touch.

Why, and the legal basis

Your details are used to reply to your enquiry with a date and a price, and to arrange the test if you go ahead. They are never used for marketing, and there is no mailing list.

You do not have to give any details, but without an email address or phone number Ray cannot reply, and without the site location he cannot quote.

Who sees your details

Ray. Nobody else reads your enquiry, and your details are never sold or shared for marketing.

To run the website and deliver your enquiry, they pass through service providers who act only on Ray's instructions and may not use them for anything else:

If you go ahead and book, the candidate details needed for the test and the card are passed to NPORS, the scheme that issues the card.

Spam protection on the forms

The forms use Google reCAPTCHA to check that a person, not a program, is sending them. reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you use the page and sends it to Google. The basis is legitimate interests: keeping the forms usable and free of spam. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Cookies and website statistics

When you first visit, a banner lets you accept all cookies or choose which ones to allow. Google Analytics starts switched off in the choices, and nothing is sent to it unless you agree. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings button at the bottom left of every page. If you switch Analytics off, any analytics cookies already set are deleted.

If you accept, Google Analytics records which pages you visit, roughly where you are, and what kind of device and browser you use, so the site can be improved. It does not tell Ray who you are. The basis is your consent.

Name What it does How long it lasts
walters_consent Remembers your cookie choice 6 months
_ga Google Analytics: tells one visit from another. Only set if you accept 2 years
_ga_SL45YE04V7 Google Analytics: keeps track of the current visit. Only set if you accept 2 years

The accessibility toolbar remembers the settings you choose, such as text size, in your browser's own storage. That stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. reCAPTCHA may set its own cookie when a form is on the page, to tell people from programs.

Visit counting without cookies

Separately from Google Analytics, the website counts visits itself, so Ray knows how many people use the site, which pages they look at, in what order and for how long, and whether they came from a search engine or another site. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. To tell one visit from another, your IP address and browser details are combined with a random code that changes every day and scrambled; only the scrambled result is kept, never the IP address, and the daily code is thrown away. It cannot identify you or link your visits on different days. The figures stay on the website's own server and are deleted after 14 months. The basis is legitimate interests: understanding how the website is used so it can be improved.

How long it is kept

Enquiries are deleted from the website 12 months after they are sent. The emailed copy is deleted on the same schedule, unless the enquiry turned into a booking. Booking records are kept for as long as the NPORS scheme and tax law require.

Google Analytics keeps its statistics for 14 months.

Where your details are stored

The website, including the enquiries sent through it, is hosted on servers in the UK. Google, which provides Ray's email, Google Analytics and reCAPTCHA, may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, it is covered by safeguards that UK data protection law recognises, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Your rights

You can ask Ray to:

Where the basis is legitimate interests, you can object at any time. Where it is your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and it will not affect what happened before. Email or ring Ray and he will deal with it within one month. There is no charge.

If you are not happy

Tell Ray first and he will put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
